WiFi Breaks Distance Record - 382 kilometres

Posted in

According to CNET News, the record for the longest communication link using Wi-Fi has been broken with the new record now at 382 kilometres (or 238 miles), over the old record of 310 kilometres by Swedish scientists.

Researcher Ermanno Pietrosemoli has used technology from Intel to devise his own long-range Wi-Fi equipment which sees him achieve 3 megabits per second (Mbps) between two specific points situated at long distance.

There are several similar experiments carried out in various countries, such as United States and Ireland. I have personally oversee the set up of long-haul wireless communication link using 802.11b protocol over different county in Ireland.
