Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope

Posted in

Ubuntu 9.04 is nicknamed "Jaunty Jackalope". This is the next Ubuntu project outlined for April next year, as part of its regular Linux distribution release. As usual, the developers continued to name its software release after animals. The decision was already made even before Ubuntu 8.10 - Intrepid Ibex - is released, which is scheduled some time in late October. According to Mark Shuttleworth, project's founder,

"...As we approach the launch of Ubuntu 8.10, it's time to create space for future plans... (Jaunty) will be the focus of our efforts from November through to April next year..."

The main focus of this release will be on boot time improvement and integration of desktop and web-based applications.

Furthermore, the project founder mentioned that more details will be released at the Ubuntu Developer Summit, held in Google's Mountain View campus from December 8th to 12th, 2008. Next year will see Ubuntu compete fiercely with its commercial rivals, such as Microsoft and Apple.
