Top 5 Drupal Modules

Drupal modules are just like plugins for WordPress; they provide additional functionalities to the Drupal websites, which assist the site owners in managing and administering the sites. In contrast to other CMS websites, such as Joomla, Drupal provides a much robust and flexibility to configure the site according to the owners' requirement. Without further ado, below are the top 5 Drupal modules, as recommended by us.

  1. Site map - Display a site map.
Providing a site map for your Drupal website is nonetheless a good thing for bots or spiders that comb your site for content. In other words, this is good for SEO.
  2. Pathauto - Provides a mechanism for modules to automatically generate aliases for the content they manage.
This module requires two other modules in order to work; they are, Path and Token. The former is already part of the Drupal core module, so it only requires an activation of the module. The latter requires a download of the module and install it on system. Pathauto is highly recommended as it automatically defines an appropriate URL path for all your contents, include story, forums, users' profiles, etc.
  3. Web File Manager (Webfm) - Hierarchical AJAX file system manager.
The Webfm module is a latest developed module based on AJAX. After enabling the module, the settings needs to be configured before it can be used. The path is linked to the global path of the Drupal settings, for example, "files/". It should not take you too long to figure this out.
  4. Google Analytics - Adds Google Analytics javascript tracking code to all your site's pages.
Instead of modifying the theme of the site, use this Google Analytics module to track the visitors' visit on your site. It's much better when future site owners decide to change to another theme.
  5. FCKeditor WYSIWYG HTML editor - Enables the usage of FCKeditor (WYSIWYG) instead of plain text fields.
Drupal does not come with a WYSIWYG editor. Hence, this module will be a perfect addition to your list if you prefers to work on rich-text editors. However, installing this module will take some extra steps. After downloading the module from the original website, web owner need to download the FCKeditor script from a separate website . Upload to the folder, "modules/fckeditor/fckeditor/" and uncompress the content. Configure the settings and that is about it.

It is no doubt that there should be more modules that you feel should be included on the list here. Nonetheless, these are our recommended choice for top 5 Drupal modules that are a must to have.

Display Video Using Plugins

Hi Raj,

You can display video in Drupal using the contributed modules found here - http://drupal.org/project/Modules.

In addition, the latest version of Drupal is Drupal 6.10; you may want to consider upgrading your site to this latest version, that contains security bug fixes.

phpmyadmin in Drupal?

Hi,

I doubt you can do so in Drupal. phpmyadmin is a tool that integrates with the use of shared web-hosting services (or application), such as cPanel. However, there may be modules (or plugins) available that may allow user to access to the database from Drupal. In my opinion, phpmyadmin is not possible.

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
Keith
