Tevion Slimline MP3 Player Firmware Update for Windows XP - Player Recovery Device Class Issue

Tevion Slimline MP3 Player is one of the smallest MP3 player that I have come across. Compared to Apple's iPod nano, if you had not look closer, you might just easily mistake Tevion MP3 Player for Apple's iPod nano. The look and touch of the audio device are almost exact duplicates of each other.

Although the player itself may work fine, but users might want to upgrade the firmware due to some reasons, such as

  1. player malfunctioning,
  2. player does not start up after charging the battery
  3. player gets too hot when recharging
  4. player cannot be turned on
  5. player flashes when trying to turn on
  6. some other issues...etc.

According to Unisupport.net site, they have provided a couple of update instructions to update your firmware to help solve the problem. No uk security labels are attached to the MP3 player. In fact, if users are able to upgrade to the latest firmware, chances are that your MP3 player will resume normal operation. Unfortunately, if you are a Windows XP user, you might end up having more problem, i.e. driver incompatibility issue.

Continue for solution...

The driver provided by Unisupport.net is apparently meant for Windows 98 and Windows ME versions, hence they will not work in Windows XP. If you experience the following problem "Player Recovery Device Class" during driver installation, whereby the INF file failed to install. Then follow the instruction below to workaround the problem of driver compatibility issue. The following issue was resolved by me.

Instruction

  1. Download the package - tevion-neohide.zip
  2. Unzip the zip file into a folder in your computer, i.e. c:\
  3. Then follow the upgrade instruction given by Unisupport.

Unisupport Instruction

  1. With the MP3 player switched OFF, Press and hold the PLAY button, while connecting the player to the computer via the USB player. A message "Found New Hardware STMP3500" will pop up on your system tray.
  2. The Hardware Wizard will appear. Check "Install from a list of specific location (Advanced)" and then press NEXT. After pressing NEXT, Release the PLAY button.
  3. In the next step, Check "Include this location in the search", and set the location to the folder where you have unzipped your file, i.e.
    c:\tevion-2.620revised\tevion-drivers\

    Then, Press NEXT.

  4. The Wizard will now successfully install the driver.

For the remaining part, simply go to the folder, i.e.

c:\tevion-2.620revised\Apps\

and run the file stupdaterapp.exe to update your firmware to the latest version. The updating process will take about a few minutes, depending on the size of your memory. (Note, if you had choosen "Format Data Area", make sure you transfer your data file, i.e. music, video and images, to your computer as backup before running the firmware update application)

The instruction to rectify driver compatibility issue is pretty straightforward. Feel free to ask me any question, if you have issue.

What brand is your MP3 Player? C332 does not sound like a Tevion brand, nor from unisupport.net.

Have you tried searching the web for any possible solution?

Hi, if you are unable to see anything on your display. May I suggest that you send an email to unisupport.net and request for instant help. Hopefully they should be able to provide some information on how to restore your device.

Hi,

I am not sure where you can get genx firmware, but hopefully some other members are able to help you.

Hi Ronel,

Perhaps you might be mistaken this device as an Apple's iPod nano. This is a Tevion product, which resembles the look of an iPod nano.

You may want to check out Apple's website to upgrade your iPod - http://www.apple.com

Cheers!

Guest (not verified) | Thu, 2007-09-06 22:26

Hi,
It is highly doubtful that you can get more games to be installed on your Tevion Player. It is unlike Apple's iPod nano, though it looks like one and probably function like one.

i bought it off ebay so there is no instruction manual and when i looked at the one on the unisupport website folowing instructions didnt work
please help
thanks :)

I'm having exactly the same problem as the person above - i.e. i can only see one folder at a time, as opposed to the root folder with all the other artists folders in it

Since this happened, I have also found that the player is only able to record one voice file at a time, as when i record a new one it writes over the previously saved one.

These problems happened suddenly, as previously the player functioned fine!

I've followed the firmware update instructions above but it hasn't resolved the problems

Any help would be appreciated!
