Google Secretly Updates Google Chrome Version

Posted in

With the recent release of Google Chrome web browser (still in beta stage), how many of you have realised that Google actually automatically updates your browser version, without you realising it?

Following the Google Chrome Dev Channel Chooser tool, made available by Google, I have actually updated to the developer's version of 0.2.152.1 (as you can see from the screen-shot below).

Take Ownership of Files and Folders in Windows Vista

You may purchased a new hard disk drive and replace your current hard disk drive on your machine. Now, with a USB connector cable, you tried to access your previous hard disk drive, like an external drive, to find that there are some folders with security settings preventing you from accessing them! What should you do?

Fear not, as there is a way via the command line using Windows Command Prompt (CMD) to access these secured folders.

Optimise and Speed Up Mozilla Firefox Tip

With the recent introduction of Google Chrome, it has, once again, sparked a strong browser war competition against all the browsers, such as Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Opera and some others, such as Netscape.

However, today we are not going to join in the crowd and compare the speeds between all the browsers, rather we are going to provide a simple and quick tip to optimise and speed up Mozilla Firefox.

Mollom Sheds Beta Tag

Posted in

Mollom has finally shed the beta tag from its service. From the newsletter that I received from Dries Buytaert, he has officially announced that the "beta" label has been taken off and with the help of startup Benjamin Schrauwen, they have managed to keep the website free of spam via the first commercial product, that is Mollom.

Mollom has been tested in the market for the past 6 months; since then, the service has blocked almost 9 million spam messages across thousands of websites. The service will continue further to enhance and continue block spams on many more websites.

Windows Live Hotmail To Be Faster

Posted in

Yes, it is coming soon. Microsoft has announced that their next generation of Windows Live Hotmail is going to be much faster and better than before. What changes will there be? According to the giant software company, Windows Live Hotmail will:

  • be up to 70% faster to sign in and read the email.
  • incorporate enhanced technology to identify spams and protect users against viruses and scams.
  • be cleaner, simpler and easier to use, because of its sleek design. The idea here is to combine the usefulness of the classic version and the powerful functions of the full version of Hotmail together.
  • contain new themes, colours and designs for users' personalisation.
  • easier to categorise and group contacts together.
  • provide more storage spaces.
  • allow users to message using web-based Internet Messaging tool directly.
  • let users share calendars with friends and family members.

With so much enhanced features coming up, I cannot wait for it to be released.

Mollom - Spam Comments Exterminator

Just about two weeks ago, we have upgraded our site to the latest Drupal engine. After doing so, we acknowledged that there will be a lot of spam issues, as that have been encountered when the site was running on version 4.7.x version. During then, there was a particular contributed Drupal module, "spam", which worked miraculously in identifying spam comments. Unfortunately, this module is not supported in version 6.x, which prompted us to lookout for an alternative solution.

There was none that suits our needs from the Drupal module repository until we saw this - Mollom.

24-hour Battery Life HP Notebook - EliteBook 6930p

Posted in

After Dell announced their Latitude series of E6400 notebook that is capable of running on a battery for 19 hours, HP made a claim that they have something that can superbly overhaul that achievement! The new EliteBook 6930p is said to be capable of delivering up to 24 hours of battery runtime, with the support of an optional ultra-capacity battery.

Ted Clark, Senior Vice President and Geeneral Manager of Notebook Global Business Unit, HP said,

"...All-day computing has been the holy grail of notebook computing. With the HP EliteBook 6930p, customers no longer have to worry about their notebook battery running out before their work day is over..."

What made this notebook run so long is very due to its specification, such as the Intel 80GB Solid-State Drive (SSD) and the 14.1-inch mercury-free Illumi-Lite Light-Emitting Diode (LED) display. Both hardware components have significantly reduces the overall energy consumption on the battery lifespan. Believe it or not, the system is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, something that you might not be expected for a long battery lifespan laptop.
