Shawn Hogan of Digital Point Sued by eBay

Posted in

Found out from SelfMadeMinds, it has come to light that Shawn Hogan, owner of Digital Point (DP) Forums, has been sued by eBay in an allegation over cookies stuffing.

With due respect to Shawn, who is earning at least a five-digit figure per month, I do not see why he has to do that. There has been rumours in one of the DP threads mentioning that he could be a victim of such. However, according to Al Carlton from Coolest Gadgets, he made a post somewhere explaining that when the eBay affiliate tracking system went down for 8 hours, Shawn incurred a loss of about $4,500. Furthermore, it was also mentioned in the thread that the main focus of the court matter is on cookies stuffing with specific keywords, e.g. "ebay" and "ebay registration", both of which netted him number one spot on Google Search engine. Naturally, eBay has to be rather pissed for having another site displacing them from the number one spot for "ebay".

Such Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) technique, commonly known as the Black Hat, has been strongly discouraged as it might lead to a permanent ban from major search engines, such as Google.

At the moment, the verdict is yet to be revealed as we wait patiently for the result to be announced, if Shawn is guilty of such act.
