Riyo Mori - Miss Universe 2007 Winner

Yesterday, 20-year-old Japanese model Riyo Mori (above) was crowned Miss Universe, after defeating contestants from 77 other countries all around the world. Miss Mori was a ballet dancer from Shizuoka Prefecture in Japan. The Miss Universe 2007 was held in Mexico this year.

As the Miss Universe, she received the diamond and pearl studded crown, which is valued at US$250,000, from last year's winner Zuleyka Rivera of Puerto Rico.

Since 1959, when Akiko Kojima won the prestigious pageant, Miss Mori is only the second Japanese woman to have won the contest.

The first runner-up was Natalia Guimaraes, 22, from Brazil, and the second runner-up was Ly Jonaitis, 21, from Venezuela. South Korean's Honey Lee, 24, was the third runner-up of Miss Universe 2007.

The judges must have been blind. I still think Miss USA was the hottest among all other contestant.

I would have agree that Miss USA is probably one of the best contestants in the beauty pageant event, not for the fact that she had an unexpected slip and fell on her bottom, which drew a lot of boos from the crowd.

Miss Japan didn't deserve to win Miss Universe 2007! She looks very ordinary, speaks very poor English and her gown was awful!
Miss Korea and Brazil are more deserving!
The judges have very poor taste!

Riyo Mori is deserving coz she's no extra ordinary persom and a JAPANESE.

Perhaps, the judges have their own "special" taste in this year's Miss Universe's competition.

By the way, I do not agree that Miss Universe has to speak excellent English. It's bias to think that way.

No comment on her gown, probably a hundred miles out of the world, maybe that's why it stands out.

At the same time, I don't think she should win just because she's a Japanese. All competitors are equal.

Miss Japan was fully deserving!

I don't get it why people have to say that only people who can speak english have to win Miss Universe. English is not even the most spoken language in the world.

Miss Japan was the most natural of all contestants.

y? because she outstanded them all. first with her gown, she showed the world how to carry a gown inspired by her culture's fashion. she carried it with poise and uniqueness that she alone possessed among the candidates. she may not be that typical mestiza beauty but she is beautiful in her own way. besides beauty is not only about the typical greek look-a-likes & all those stuff.
