Site Upgrade - Drupal 6.17

Drupal Logo

At Neohide, we have just upgraded to the next version of Drupal 6.17, a maintenance release fixing issues reported through the bug tracking system. Although it was reported that there was no security concern, upgrading to this latest version is still recommended.

Some of the changes include improvements of session cookie handling, better processing of big XML-RPC payloads, improved PostgreSQL compatibility, better PHP 5.3 and PHP 4 compatibility, improved Japanese support in search module, better browser compatibility of CSS and JS aggregation and improved logging for login failures.

Interested users can download Drupal 6.17 version here.

New Twitter Lists - BETA

Twitter BETA lists

Twitter, the renowned micro-blog site, has just come up with something new! It is called Lists (which is currently in BETA stage). Users may not receive this note, because this feature is only given out to selected Twitter accounts.

Basically, Lists help Twitter users to manage and organise the people that they follow. In addition, it also helps to discover new and interesting accounts, which account owners can link them to the same list, for better management. In other word, it works like categorisation of users.

To start using it, click on "Create a new list". It will bring up a pop-up window (shown below).

Twitter Create New List

Enter the name of the List and you can even set it to "Private", if you don't want any public users to access your list.

Subsequently, you will proceed to add People onto the List that you want to follow (on that category). The best thing I like about List is that it allows me to group together the same field of people who share similar interests.

Well done, Twitter!

Poken - New Social Networking Site

You may have been a member of Facebook or Twitter, but is that enough? Have you also forgotten about the past social networking sites, such as Friendster and Hi5, which once roam the Internet social network? Furthermore, how can possibly forget MySpace.

With so many social networking sites evolving around the Internet, which one will you likely to choose? Today, I just received the news that Poken, a new social networking site, will be the future generation of social networking; how it will change the way users perceive and socialise with peers.

With Poken, users can expand their network with a wave of the hands, or scroll back in time to check who they have met, where and when. This site also connects to other social networking sites, such as friends, who have pages on Facebook and MySpace.

Although Poken is still in the development phase, there is already a lot of promising features. Several new stuffs will be added within the next few weeks. Until it is officially launched, you may want to be one of the first to try out Poken.

Mollom - Spam Comments Exterminator

Just about two weeks ago, we have upgraded our site to the latest Drupal engine. After doing so, we acknowledged that there will be a lot of spam issues, as that have been encountered when the site was running on version 4.7.x version. During then, there was a particular contributed Drupal module, "spam", which worked miraculously in identifying spam comments. Unfortunately, this module is not supported in version 6.x, which prompted us to lookout for an alternative solution.

There was none that suits our needs from the Drupal module repository until we saw this - Mollom.

ShoppingAds - by TextLinkAds - Not As Good As Google AdSense

ShoppingAds was the first ever CPC ad program by its parent company - TextLinkAds. ShoppingAds is a Cost Per Click (CPC) product powered by some major shopping comparison sites. As such it allows publishers to display relevant merchant products in the form of image and text description. Similar to Google AdSense, publishers get paid dividends each time a visitor clicks on the ad.

FixYa - Support Information for Consumer Products

Posted in

Fixya seems to be a rather user friendly and well-organised site. The name FIXYA is interesting and easy to remember. The website is generally easy to navigate and the design and layout is simple yet professional. On top of all that, rich content and such a comprehensive coverage of solutions for technical problems make the site very informative and attractive.

The best thing about this website is the fact that it is interactive and you have top technical experts to provide advice on fixing technical problems by a message or even a chat service. It is incredible that the founders have made it a one-stop directory for such a wide range of consumer products.

Overall, an excellent solution-based site. Congratulations!
