NeoHide Upgrades to Drupal 6

Posted in

As you might have realised, we have made quite a number of changes to our NeoHide site! Over the weekend, we spent a couple of hours performing upgrade to the Drupal engine. The Drupal upgrade process is quite tedious, but it went relatively smoothly.

(Read more about our upgrading story...)

We were running Drupal version 4.7.11 on our previous site. Hence, the initial upgrade process requires the version to be upgraded to Drupal 5.x first, before upgrading to version 6.x.

There was a lot of things to be done prior to replacing the files over the older version, for example, making backup copies, ensuring that if anything goes wrong, there is a possibility to fallback to the original version. In addition, there is a need to make a list of the third-party modules, i.e. not core modules, that was running on the website. These modules have to be deactivated.

Other precautionary actions have been indicated from the Drupal support documentation to ensure smooth upgrade. Be sure to take note of the configuration setting!

The outcome of the Drupal upgrade is fantastic! The first thing is, of course, to customise the site to suit my readers' taste. For example, obtaining an appropriate theme, designing a new logo, restoring the Google AdSense and other affiliates. These will take quite some time but the effort is well paid-off.

A new site, gives readers a new refreshing look. Hope that you can give me your critics and we look forward to improve the site even further.

Best Regards,
Keith
