GeoCities, a website publishing and hosting service that was so popular in the 1990s is now coming towards the end of its lifespan as Yahoo! has decided to close the gates on the home page.
In 1999, GeoCities was acquired was Yahoo! Since then, the shift to social networking site instead of a personal webpage has signalled the end of Web hosting service. Such was the life story of a 15-year-old Web service.
For Yahoo!, this adds on to the fact that the Search Engine Giant is losing its grip on the Internet, after it has also previously shut down ventures, such as Yahoo! Pets and Yahoo! Live.
