No one enjoys the feeling of being groped, particularly in the early morning train ride on a crowded cabin to work. That can really spoil your day. Just as you think that might just be the way society is today; but think twice, there is something else that you can do - Prevention!

A mobile phone software, known as Anti-Groping Appli - developed by Games programmer Takashi - is making its way into the cellphone software market. Released in late 2005, this software has recently found popularity among Japanese women, and it is highly ranked in the weekly top-10 cellphone application, as compiled by Web-based publisher Spicy Soft.

(Read on to find out how to stop that groper...)

The software application can be downloaded for free onto a Web-enabled mobile phone. The purpose of this software is to scare away perverts and potential gropers, with minimal hassle and embarassment, and hence without causing much commotion.

"... The application flashes increasingly threatening messages in bold print on the phone's screen to be shown to the offender..."

The offender gets to see these messages:

"Excuse me, did you just grope me?",
"Groping is a crime",
"Shall we head to the police?"

Users can press on the "Anger" icon to initiate the next threat message, which is accompanied by a warning chime.

As over 60 percent of Japanese cellphone owners use applications almost everyday, it is no doubt that Anti-Groping Appli is becoming popular among the women. According to Tokyo Metropolitan Police, there are several groping incidents occuring on the trains daily, and most of them are not recorded as women are often too embarassed to report the matter.

In my opinion, Anti-Groping Appli can be a good companion not just for the ladies, but for men also. Personally, I don't enjoying standing too close to others on the train... with the possibility of theft.
