Some examples of these websites are Office Live, Friendster and MySpace. Having a Google AdSense account, it also means occasionally finding ways to maximise revenue or income. Unless you subscribed to Office Live Essentials or Office Live Premium, the free version of Office Live Basics only allows users to create and modify web pages via the browser. As such, there is no way to insert HTML codes containing <SCRIPT> tags (which is used by Google AdSense). Similarly for Friendster and MySpace, only basic HTML tags are allowed.
So, is that the end of the story? Certainly not, or else I won't be wasting my effort writing this article.
In fact there is a simple trick to go about it, which is to use <IFRAME> tag, a basic HTML code. The procedure below explains how it is being done for Office Live.
- Create a HTML file, e.g. ads.htm, to place your Google AdSense code.
- Upload ads.htm to a website, e.g. http://mysite.com/ads.htm.
- In Office Live, edit the page where you want to place the Google AdSense code. Point the cursor to the appropriate region and click at the top to add a HTML Module to the Web Page.
- Copy the following text into the HTML dialog box:
- Remember to modify the code that points to the appropriate ads.htm location.
- Adjust the height and width to suit your Ads format.
- Finally, save your modification. Your AdSense script should now appear in the website.
<IFRAME src="http://mysite.com/ads.htm" width="770" height="110" frameborder="0" scrolling=no>[Browser not supporting frame detected.]</IFRAME>
The same approach can be carried out for sites like Friendster that accepts only basic HTML tags. Simply follow step (1) and (2) to create a HTML file to contain your source. Then, edit your Friendster profile and insert the code by doing step (4) to (7). Eventually, you will have your Google AdSense code on your own profile page.
Okay, there are a few guidelines which you have to follow.
- It is not against the TOS by Google for anyone who uses IFRAME to display AdSense codes. The only drawback is that sites with AdSense code placed in a separate IFRAME may display less targeted ads or public service ads.
- As the regulation states that it allows a maximum of 1 link ads and 3 content ads. For example, Friendster has already one content ads, so you can only add a maximum of two more.
Though this is not widely used, it may be effective for those who wishes to monetise their blog sites using this method.
If you are still not a Google AdSense member, then it is time to sign up below for Google AdSense today.
Disclaimer: The author is in no way associated to encourage anyone who uses inline frame method to display AdSense code.

Hi there,
Google does not block users from using iframe. It has been stated according in latest Google's TOS and FAQ.
There are some possibilities which might have led to your account being blocked, e.g.
I went to take a look at your website, and found out that it is not using Office Live Basic. Below is the information I received:
Apparently, the site that you have mentioned above is using a web hosting company, and not Microsoft's Office Live hosting. So, I believe I did not provide any wrong information in any way. Thus, I am unable to comment further on your query.

Keith

Page Not Found?

Hi lisa,
I see that you may have follow the instructions to include the line into your code:
src="http://mysite.com/ads.htm"
However, do make sure that you change mysite.com to your domain name, i.e. the correct URL address to point to the location where you could have saved your "ads.htm" file.
Changing "ads.htm" to "ads.doc" is certainly not going to help.

Hi boyz,
It may be due to the technical failure of the site itself. Perhaps, it might be more helpful to contact the staffs from the site directly.

MySpace Updates Algorithm

It is quite possible that MySpace has updated its algorithm to automatically filter iframe codes.
I have not checked out MySpace with these codes yet, but I do believe that their developers have changed the coding to prevent users from using iframe tags.

Hey, I found your blog and I think its really helpful. I tried pasting my adsense code on MS WORD 2007 and saving it as a web page to be able to have an html.
Then I placed the .htm address within the "HTML tag" you advised, and posted it on my friendster CSS editor, but it won't work.
(or perhaps i pasted it on the wrong spot?)
Please help me with this as it will be greatly appreciated. :)
Cannot Use CSS

You cannot use CSS editor from Friendster; instead you need to make use of IFRAME tag in order for the site to appear.
Can you provided a step-by-step explanation of how you have done it. I'm sure it can be done.

Not An Issue

Hi,
There is nothing wrong with that statement, it simply means that your browser does not support frame. However, that does not mean it is not working in other browsers.
Look carefully at the code that I've written above, you should be able to identify that.

Hi,
My website is powered by Microsoft Office Live Small Business. I have followed your instructions. In a text editor I pasted my google ads code and saved it as an .htm. I then uploaded it to my website. In the HTML module I inserted yout IFRAME code and changed everything to my specifications, i.e. name of my site and size of ad. When it loads to my site the module says 404 page not found.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Andrea
Andrea - Upload to Alternative Site
Submitted by keith on Sun, 2008-05-11 08:36.
- reply
Hi Andrea,
You may want to upload the HTML file, consisting of your Google AdSense on another web server that is not served by Microsoft Office Live.
Within the same HTML module, you can use the IFRAME to call the code that is placed on that other server or site.
Hope this helps,
Keith

Hello there,
Yes, iframe is working in Friendster, as far as I can confirm. You can remove the line indicating "Browser not supporting frame detected". If you cannot see the Iframe, that is simply because of your browser, not because of the code.
Hope that helps,
Cheers!

Does not work on comment field - to darkerthanblack
Submitted by keith on Sun, 2008-09-07 06:09.
- reply
Hi darkerthanblack, as you've mentioned, it does work on Friendster profile. However, it will not work on comment fields, because those fields have been stripped of many HTML codes. In other words, it does not permit most of the HTML codes therefore, it will not support iframe.

Hello dante,
Unfortunately, this is not a Friendster website, so we can do nothing about it. However, again, I aren't sure if you attempting to promote the account holder or genuinely trying to warn others about this person.
Cheers,
