  2. Stay vigilent during flight - Even if you are in the air, things can still go missing. It is always a good practice to keep laptops underneath the seats in front of you, instead of the overhead compartment.
  3. Time management - Prepare yourself enough time to avoid rush. Frantic moments can lead you to be forgetful and eventually leave things behind.
  4. Insurance - Items that have gone missing can be extremely costly. No matter how small it is, it is always good to get insurance coverage for the items.
  5. Leave it in office - If not necessary, leave the laptop in the office (under lock and key). Carrying the data in thumb drives or CD/DVD is easier than carrying the expensive laptop.
  6. Encryption - Data is priceless! Never let anyone has a chance to see what information you have, no matter how you think it does not contain any valuable information. Hackers are smart and they can decipher your secret passwords and stuffs like that to gain access to bank accounts, etc. There are always free encryption (or open-source) tools in the Internet that protects your data. Use them, whenever possible.
  7. Backup - Once again, even if it's not the loss of laptop, hard disk failure can also make you cry. Always have a backup data ready and stored somewhere. Data, once lost, is gone forever.
  8. Keep it with you at all times - Never put your laptop down even when you are making a phone call, or using the bathroom. It only takes 2 seconds for a laptop to disappear right in front of you. Always keep it beside you.
  9. Label your laptop - In case of loss of misplace of item, when your laptop is labelled, there is a good chance of recovering missing items. Hence, it is always good to label your contact information on the laptop and the bag.
  10. Always keep an eye through security - Last but not least, a lot of travellers feel that laptops, when placed on the security conveyor belt is always safe. Never take things for granted, because you could be called for body inspection; and someone else at the end of the conveyor can conveniently take your item away. Before you realised that, it's gone. Thus, never trust the security to keep an eye on your items.

So, before the most private and confidential item falls into the wrong hand, it is perhaps time for you to consider taking extra precautions.
